GE Energy Startup Current Teams with AT&T on Smart Cities Infrastructure

GE's clean energy startup, Current, is partnering with AT&T to sell internet-connected sensors to cities in the U.S. and Mexico. GE will provide the sensor hardware, often attached to a city's outdoor LED lights, as well as its software platform, Predix, which allows municipal software engineers to build useful applications to analyze the data collected by the sensors.

Current consolidated existing lines of business representing about $1 billion in revenue from GE's LED, solar, energy storage and electric vehicle businesses. It promises to combine those services with a software platform to offer commercial and municipal customers an intelligent way to manage energy use, among other things. Read the full article here.
